Happy birthday Viola Ford Fletcher 111th

Viola Ford Fletcher, affectionately known as “Mother Fletcher,” marked a remarkable milestone on May 10, 2025, as she celebrated her 111th birthday. Born in 1914, she holds the unique honor of being the oldest living survivor of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, one of the darkest chapters in American history. At just seven years old during the massacre, Fletcher witnessed firsthand the destruction of the prosperous Black community in Tulsa’s Greenwood District, often called “Black Wall Street.”

Over the years, she has shared her story to keep the memory of the victims alive and to advocate for justice, making her not just a witness to history but also a voice for truth and reconciliation. Her life is a testament to resilience, courage, and the power of remembrance. As she continues to inspire generations, her legacy remains deeply rooted in the ongoing fight for equality and historical recognition.
